My India travel experience
I am Laura Brengelmann, hailing from the picturesque city of Cologne, Germany. I am excited to share with you my travel experiences in India. Yoga has deepened my connection to India, prompting me to immerse myself in Indian culture. Our journey will last one month, although I must admit that one month hardly seems sufficient.
I planned to see northern and southern India, Goa was the main focus in mind. I visited Jodhpur, Pushkar, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi and Delhi. Unfortunately, I was unable to undergo yoga teacher training, but I attended yoga classes, visited Ashrams, and experienced Ayurvedic massage centers to immerse myself in the Indian ambiance. I must admit, it felt far more authentic and profound than what I’ve experienced in Europe.
I practiced Yoga with an instructor. Since it was our first time, we didn’t perform very well and we’re not sure about the teacher’s proficiency. However, he was kind and polite. Indeed, it’s more traditional, and there’s a sense that the people there truly understand their craft. It emanates from a place of passion and a rich history.
What has personally inspired me are the vivid people. I wanted to test all the stereotypes for myself, to experience the beauty and spirituality.
Primarily to learn more about its culture and religion. Our expectations were completely met.
The noticeable difference that touched me here is the people I’ve met; they genuinely take you to heart. Friendship holds a deeper meaning. I’ve noticed that people here are quite approachable and open, which is new to me. Sharing food with strangers or inviting them into your home are gestures that are not common in Germany.
During my travels as a woman, I experienced no major problems, just some small irritations. There were times when I felt a bit uneasy as individuals approached me, asking if they could take a photograph with me.
The portrayal of India in the German media is not entirely reflective of the country’s multifaceted reality, which I think is often depicted from a singular viewpoint. This skewed representation even caused my parents to worry about my choice to visit India, highlighting the significant impact that media narratives can have on our perceptions.
As I bid farewell to Germany, my eyes are filled with tears, yet my heart is hopeful for a return next year. The Himalayas call to me, a majestic realm I yearn to explore. And if fortune favors, I shall also set foot in the enchanting land of Nepal.
